Record Number of Participants at the Prague Stop of the Hungarian Food Business Program

The latest business matchmaking event of the Hungarian Food Business Program took place with a record number of participants: 24 Hungarian food and beverage manufacturing companies represented themselves at the export development forum held in the Czech capital, Prague.

The event was particularly special as it marked the 25th matchmaking meeting of its kind in the history of the Hungarian Food Business Program.

Food trade relations between Hungary and the Czech Republic have historical dimensions. Today, both nations are members of the European Union, and the Czech Republic is a shipping destination that can be reached easily and quickly by both highway and rail. This geographical and historical proximity justifies even closer ties between the two countries, which inspired the first Czech-Hungarian business matchmaking event specifically aimed at food export development.

The event provided a unique opportunity for Hungarian manufacturers to present their products in person to the Czech market and to build direct business relationships with local importers, distributors, and players in the HoReCa sector. The program placed a strong emphasis on the growing demand for sustainable, innovative, and health-conscious food solutions—areas where Hungarian manufacturers are performing increasingly well. Accordingly, the Hungarian products on display included gluten-free bakery products, cold-pressed oils, and rice products grown and processed in Hungary, alongside classic premium foods such as foie gras, wines, and truffle products.

The goal of the Hungarian Food Business Program is to actively support Hungarian food industry companies entering foreign markets and to strengthen the presence of high-quality Hungarian products in the Central European region. On the first day of the two-day event, company representatives attended market intelligence briefings on the specific characteristics of the Czech food trade, while on the second day, they presented their products to Czech buyers and retail chain representatives during a B2B business forum. The event was attended by 24 domestic companies and sixty Czech importers, including the Rohlik Group, one of the largest online grocery retailers in the Czech Republic.

Following the Prague meeting, the next major highlight of the program will take place in Budapest: preparations are already well underway for the second large-scale Hungarian Food Summit, which will be held within the framework of the 82nd National Agriculture and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) between September 18–21, 2025. Approximately 80–100 domestic companies and around 200 foreign buyers are expected to attend the event.
